2020 has been somewhat of an underwhelming year for sneaker releases if you compare it to recent years. Such as 2017 and 2018, which were undoubtedly the peak years of the late 2010s. But as usual, Nike and the Jordan Brand dominated the list of the best releases that dropped this year.
With only ten spots up for grabs, your favourite release might not make an appearance. However, without further ado, in no particular order, we present the Top 10 Sneaker Releases Of 2020.
Air Jordan 1 High OG WMNS 'Lucky Green'
Towards the beginning of the year, women's exclusives from the Jordan Brand and Nike weren't looking too good; click here to discover what we had to say. But, multiple women's Air Jordan 1 releases were straight hits, not misses. Especially this 'Lucky Green' colourway, the attention to detail and story behind the design are the reasons why it deserves a spot on this list.
Nike SB Dunk Low Ben & Jerry's 'Chunky Dunky'
What would this list be without an appearance from the Nike Dunk Low? 2020 was the year it reintroduced itself as a game-changer. From the 'Kentucky,' to the 'University Red' and the 'Community Garden,' the options are endless. As we can only pick one sneaker, it has to be the Nike SB Dunk Low x Ben & Jerry's 'Chunky Dunky.' There were no real expectations for it, but no one could predict the design and reception it would receive.
Off-White x Air Jordan 4 SP WMNS 'Sail'
Top two, and they're not two. The Off-White x Air Jordan 4 SP WMNS 'Sail' was the best sneaker to release this year, and what's even more surprising is that it's a women's exclusive. At the beginning of the year, women's exclusive's weren't looking too promising. But somehow Virgil Abloh and the Jordan Brand connected like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James in that iconic alley-oop against the Bucks. Just like "THE TEN" collection, this sneaker isn't easy to forget.
Dior x Air Jordan 1
The Dior x Air Jordan 1 was something no one asked for but appreciated nonetheless. Of all the sneakers that almost broke the internet this year, this takes the top spot. The simplicity of a pale grey and white leather upper plus the Dior fabric on the Nike swoosh and finally an icy sole capped off the luxury feel of a premium sneaker. Whoever won a raffle for these, what does it feel like to be God's favourite?
Nike Air VaporMax 360 'Metallic Silver'
The re-emergence of the Air Max 360 upper ignited a feeling of nostalgia from the mid-2000s. Especially with the inclusion of the 'OG Red and White' history of air release. The iridescent details on the 'Metallic Silver' colourway such as the swoosh and panel that wraps around the sneaker from heel to toe placed atop a VaporMax sole made it one to watch.
Air Jordan 1 High OG WMNS 'Tie Dye'
A gamechanger. Eight times out of ten, the women's Jordan releases in 2020 were hits, not misses and these set the standard. The Air Jordan 1 WMNS High OG 'Tie Dye' is also the first Air Jordan 1 to feature a tie-dye print on leather overlays forcing it to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Even before it's release, it was in a league of its own.
Union LA x Air Jordan 4 Black Noir
