Lockdown 101: Sneaker Edition

With all this free time on our hands, there's no better time than now to spend: cleaning, organising and window-shopping.

Why wouldn't you want to refresh your collection?

Cleaning Grab that Air Force 1 that's collected dust while you've waited for summer to return. Or your go-to sneaker that's crying out for a deep clean. Give your sneakers a new almost fresh-out-the-box look once more.

Luckily, the cleaning items you need already live in your home. You'll need a toothbrush or sponge, some water, a bowl, soap or any mild detergent, newspaper, kitchen roll and any cloth-preferably microfibre. For more information on how to clean specific materials, click here to read our Sneakers Aftercare 101 post.

For those who might be a bit sceptical of the DIY version of things, if you want something that does what it says on the tin, try the Crep Protect Cure Cleaning Travel Kit. It's affordable, does the job and smells great. Use code 'TREAT20' to get 20% off!

Organising How long have you put off organising your collection? Declutter your collection and put everything in order. Organising presents you with the option to group your sneakers into multiple categories; brand, colour, model, occasion and how often you wear them. You could rediscover a sneaker you've forgotten about but still like, or find a sneaker you no longer want. Once it's safe and charity shops are open, head there. Or make some money by selling them on Depop, StockX, Grailed, GOAT or any other reseller site.

Window shopping

Window shopping, the virtual kind is probably what many people have been doing since the lockdown began.

With the temporary and permanent closing of stores due to the pandemic, brands and stores that don't want to fall victim to the economic effects of COVID-19 are pushing to make more sales and hit targets. Which explains the constant offers and discount codes you see from Nike and other brands every week. Click here to check some out!

You might have seen a sneaker but were put off by the price or unsure of the style. Nows the time to cop it, especially for a reduced price. Or is the extended return period enough to convince you? Throw on your post lockdown fits to see if the sneaker does what you want it to or not. If it does keep it, if not, return it.

Browsing won't hurt, but why not cop a pair on the low?

Aglet

Want to add something fun to your daily routine? Check out the Aglet app dubbed a Pokémon Go for sneakerheads. Earn 'Aglet' the virtual currency by walking, which is used to buy virtual sneakers. Explore your area to find treasure stashes, repair your kicks at repair and deadstock stations. You might even be lucky enough to win a real sneaker! Aglet is currently only available on iOS, but an Android app is in the works and should be out in a few months.

What have you been doing while in lockdown?

Stay home, stay safe & stay wavy!
